Balkh clerics urge Taliban to negotiate with the govt

MAZAR-I-SHARIF (Pajhwok): Some clerics and civil society to talk the peace process with the government.

The religious scholars and civil society activists expressed these views at a gathering about peace process in the provincial council office and urged the warring parties to show respect to the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC)’s declaration that called the Afghan conflict forbidden in Islam.

They also expressed their views about recent NATO conference in Brussels and said government should take advantage from the international communities’ cooperation for stability in Afghanistan.

Mulavi Mohammad Hanif, an Islamic scholar, told Pajhwok Afghan News that war in Afghanistan killed dozens of innocent Afghans on daily basis, a misery that should be intercepted by some solid steps.

About the Ulema conference on peace in Saudi, he said, the Ulema confirmed the ongoing war in Afghanistan was forbidden and the warier sides should find a peaceful solution to their differences.

He added the war in Afghanistan posed a negative image of Islam to the world and the Islamic world needed to work together for finding a solution to it.

Mulavi Mohsin Danish, another cleric said that armed men and particularly Taliban militants had no longer lawful reasons to extend war in Afghanistan.

He said, “Finally the voice of Afghans heard and the OIC proved that the war in Afghanistan was a proxy game imposed on Afghans.”

Mohsin said that Ulema from some countries skipped  the Saudi conference on Afghanistan which was questionable for Afghans.

“We hope Iranina and Pakistani Ulema who did not participate the Saudi conference would rethink and change their mind, they should not sacrifice Islamic rules for their own policies,” he said.

Meanwhile, Sayed Mohammad Yazdan Parsat, a civil society activist, termed the Saudi conference and NATO summit as beneficial for the country’s stability.

Balkh clerics and civil society activists asked the government to accelerate efforts for pace and reducing Afghan forces casualties.
