Badghis police chief laid to rest after special funeral

JALALABAD (Pajhwok): The slain police chief for northeastern Badghis province was laid to rest in his ancestral graveyard after an official funeral in the capital of eastern Nangarhar province on Friday.

The special funeral for General Sharifullah Chamtu was offered at the Sherzai ground in Jalalabad after the Badghis police chief was killed in a Taliban.

Nangarhar governor Shah Mahmood Miakhel, his deputy Tamim Arif Momand, Laghman governor Mohammad Asif Nang, 201 Selab Military Corps commander General Abdul Hadi Tarin, Border Police commander Brig. Gen. Ayub Hussainkhel, provincial council members, civil and military officials, tribal elders, influential figures and common people attended the Namaz-i-Janaza.

The Nangarhar governor expressed his shock over the killing of General Sharifullah Chamtu who he described as an experienced cop, patriot and committed to his job, saying Chamtu spent most of his life time serving the nation.

Gen. Abdul Hadi Tarin on the occasion said Gen. Chamtu was a great national asset and his martyrdom dealt a major blow to the country’s military sphere. He urged religious scholars to interpret the barbaric and inhuman acts of the armed opponents to the masses from Islamic perspective.
