Afghanistan, Italy talk military cooperation, peace

KABUL (Pajhwok): Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dr. Abdullah Abdullah and visiting Italian Minister of Defense Lorenzo Guerini on Wednesday discussed military cooperation, election, counter-terrorism and the peace process.

A statement from the CEO media office received by Pajhwok Afghan News said that Abdullah met Guerini at Sapedar Palace today.

The statement said Dr. Abdullah welcomed the Italian visiting delegation led by Guerini and said Afghanistan “has a historic and long-term relationship with Italy” and termed Lorenzo Guerini trip to Afghanistan as good omen.

The CEO also thanked Italy for its support with Afghanistan in areas of military and praised the country’s efforts at countering terrorism and ensuring peace and stability in the region.

Abdullah said the Italian government has also been cooperative with Afghanistan in area of culture, addressing refugee issues and assisting the Afghan people and government.

Guerini also thanked the CEO for his remarks about the two counties and reaffirmed his country’s support with the war-hit country in various fields.

The two sides discussed and exchanged views on the ongoing peace efforts and security situation the region.
