PUL-I-KHUMRI (Pajhwok): Police in northern Baghlan province have shut hotels, wedding halls, bathhouses and other public places as part of efforts to contain coronavirus outbreak.
Police spokesman Ahmad Javed Basharat told Pajhwok Afghan News that the closure of wedding halls, hotels, bathhouses and sport clubs was based on directives from the Ministry of Interior (MoI) in Pul-i-Kumri City.
He said the drive was launched in order to prevent coronavirus and the campaign would be extended to districts.
According to Basharat, violators will be dealt with in accordance with the law.
Mohibullah Habib, provincial public health director, told Pajhwok the governor’s house administrative meeting had decided to shut crowded places in order to prevent the outbreak.
Fahim Ahmad, resident of Pul-i-Khumri, said: “We praise the measures taken by police because coronavirus is very dangerous.”
No positive case of coronavirus has so far been registered in the province while the nation’s tally of positive cases has reached 42.
