KABUL (Pajhwok): At the start of 16-day campaign on Elimination of Violence against Women (EoVW) on Wednesday, people have been asked not to ignore rights and responsibilities of women and stressed over women participation in major government decision making processes, according to a statement.
The Young Journalists Organisation in a statement strongly condemned violence against women and asked the masses not to ignore the political, civil, educational rights and responsibility of women who comprised half of the society.
It termed ignorance root cause of men’s violence against women and women violence against women and asked the masses to come out of ignorance that undermined women rights and move towards a bright feature.
“Violence against women is so ingrained in the fabric of our society that even in some cases it is difficult for a person who is being abused and the perpetrator to recognize it. If in some cases, even though women are abused, they do not know, and in other cases, the perpetrators of violence do not know that their actions are violent; therefore, violence against women is going on in the workplace, as if many people do not realize this violence”
“Violence against women is evident apart from the family at the community level and in employment offices, and the country’s administrative system has, in many cases, ignored the biological and natural excuses of women; As in the labor law, there are no exceptions for women in the offices during pregnancy, menstruation (period) and childbirth and breastfeeding; However, a lady needs to be an exception to men in her natural affairs”
This event was organized in the Ministry of Borders and Tribal Affairs in which the participation of women in decision making process was stressed.
Acting Minister Muhibullah Samim said although 24.5 percent women worked in government positions but still efforts were being made to improve the level of women participation in government posts up to 30 percent.
He added the ministry was committed to eradicate violence, to convey the importance of women in the villages and towns, and to inform the people about the rights of women who face many challenges to the center
