KABUL (Pajhwok): The Islamic Studies Department has been revived under the Ministry of Education in compliance with a presidential decree.
Earlier, the ministry announced the merge of four small departments, including the Islamic Studies Department, but the decision hostile reactions from the people, political parties, civil society and Parliament.
In a statement on Monday, MoE said the Islamic Studies Department had been revived following a decree from President Ashraf Ghani.
The ministry had sent two drafts to the Wolesi Jirga – one about creating an executive board of Islamic Studies and another of reviving the department.
According to the statement, lawmakers, based on demands from country’s ulema and people, suggested the revival of the department.
