Afghanistan records 137 new Covid-19 cases

KABUL (Pajhwok): The Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) on Tuesday announced registering 137 new positive Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours across the country.

The ministry in a statement said 2,097 people underwent tests since Saturday and the virus was detected in 79 people, pushing the overall tally to 54,278.

It said 33 new cases were detected in Herat, 23 in Nangarhar, 22 in Faryab, 19 in   Badghis, 6 in Ghor , 5 in Kabul ,5 in Helmand, 3 in Takhar , 2 each in Nimroz, MiadanWardak, Kunar, Khost, Noristan, one each in Kandahar, Paktia, Baghlan , Parwan, Kunduz, Kapisa, Laghman and Samangan   provinces.

The ministry 143 individuals recovered from the disease during the period, taking the recoveries to 46,554.

At least eight people lost battle for life against the virus, with the total death toll reaching 2,354.

Coronavirus was first detected in China about a year ago and has since spread across the world but in recent days, some countries, such as the UK and the United States have reported a new variant the the virus.
