Covid-19 detected in 80 people nationwide

KABUL (Pajhwok): The Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) on Thursday announced detecting 80 new positive Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours nationwide.

The ministry in a statement said 1,866 people underwent tests since Saturday and the virus was found in 80 people, pushing the overall tally to 54,483.

It said 21 cases were detected in Herat, 13 in Nangarhar, 12 in Kabul , 9 in Kunar , 4 in Badakhshan, 3 each in Sari Pul, Ghazni, Faryab, 2 each in Kandahar , Kapisa, one each in Baghlan, Wardak, Logar and Panjsher provinces.

The period saw 128 individuals recovering from the virus, pushing the recoveries to 46,887 and seven people lost their lives, with the total death toll reaching 2,370.

Coronavirus was first detected in China about a year ago and has since spread across the world but in recent days some countries such as the UK and the United States have reported a new variant.
