JALALABAD (Pajhwok): The warden of the central jail in eastern Nangarhar freed a murderer sentenced to 25 years in jail and both escaped, a well-placed security source said on Tuesday.
Security forces chased the Prison Warden Ahmad Shakir Faizi but he managed to flee the area, according to the source.
He said Faizi brought the murderer out of the jail for recess purpose and allowed him flee.
The case was under review in the Attorney General Office but when police tried to arrest them, they managed to flee.
Ajmal Umar, assistant head of the Provincial Council, told Pajhwok Afghan News that QaziZada freed the inmate against $70,000.
He said when the authority became aware of the development, it took action to arrest Qazizada but he managed to flee.
According to Umar, top security officials arrived to arrest the jail warden but he was not there.
According to reports, the prisoner who was freed has escaped to a foreign country.
