KANDAHAR CITY (Pajhwok): A student in southern Kandahar province committed suicide after he was not allowed to sit the annual exam due to his prolonged absence from classes, an official said on Saturday.
Hamyoun, 18, was student of Ahmad Shah Baba High School in Kandahar City, the provincial capital.
Police spokesperson Jamal NasirBarakzai said Hamayoun committed suicide at his home by hanging himself from the roof.
He said police were investigating the incident.
Hamyoun’s father Dr. Mohibullah said his son committed suicide due to excessive absence from his school.
He said his son took relevant documents from a hospital to the school to show why he was long absent but the school administration did not accept them.
Education Department Spokesperson Nazar Mohammad Samimi confirmed Hamayoun 18, a student of Ahamd Shah Baba High School had died.
Samimi did not comment over the reason of Hamayoun’s death but added he was absent for 133 days. Every student who remains absent for more than 98 days is not allowed to sit exams.
