JALALABAD (Pajhwok): A heavy-duty truck scale has been reactivated at the Torkham port in eastern Nangarhar province, local officials said on Tuesday.
A statement from the governor’s office said the truck weight-bridge was not used by the former government, paving the way for corruption.
With the scale unused for three years, vehicles carrying more than permissible weight also damaged roads, the statement alleged.
Public Works Director Maulvi Yar Mohammad was quoted as saying that each truck was charged 100 to 200 afghanis. No truck is allowed to carry more than permissible weight.
