MAZAR-I-SHARIF (Pajhwok): Deputy foreign minister on Sunday said the government was in contact with the world but it would not compromise national interests and the Islamic system.

During his visit to northern Balkh province, Sher Mohammad Abbas Stanekzai, deputy foreign minister of Afghanistan, met with local officials and military personnel of the 209 Al-Fatah Corps and said that the government strongly protects the country’s territorial integrity and borders.

He said that over the past 20 years, Afghans have made great sacrifices and saved Afghanistan from foreign oppressions.

In the current situation, Afghanistan needs national unity more than anything else, he said.

If Afghans want not to be oppressed or insulted again, they should join hands and take part in the development of their country, he said.

Stanekzai said that for the first time in the last 40 years, Afghanistan had its own government and decide independently.

“Our decisions previously were in the hands of the Soviets, then our decisions were in the hands of the US and NATO, but today, thank God, the government and the system belong to the Afghans and they make their own decisions,” he added.

The Islamic Emirate does not accept any discrimination among Afghans and a general amnesty has been declared for the sake of stability in the country, he said.

He also called on the political opponents of the Islamic Emirate to return and said that the doors of the new government were open.

“We voice on our political opponents to stay in the country and those who have left the country can come back. The doors of Afghanistan are open for them. This is our common home and we all have the right to live here, there is no benefit in separation,” he said.

Stanekzai said that the war in Afghanistan is over and Afghans are tired of decades long conflicts.

He also said that the Islamic Emirate is in contact with the United States and the international community. However, he added that Afghans should be confident they do not deal with anyone over national interests, jihad achievements and the Islamic system.

“Mujahideen are present in our corps. If anyone looks at the border of Afghanistan as encroachment, these Mujahideen will gouge out their eyes. We have sacrificed for 20 years to protect this country and we are ready to sacrifice another 20 years to implement the Sharia system,” he said.

He called on Afghanistan’s neighbors to give a hand of brotherhood to Afghans at a critical time the Afghan people passing and to make it easier for them to cross the border.
