UNICEF provides cash assistance to Logar teachers

KABUL (Pajhwok): UNICEF on Sunday provided cash assistance to 3034 teachers of 312 public sector girls and boys schools in central Logar province.

Each teacher received afghanis equal to $100, said provincial education department spokesman Shahpur Arab. He told Pajhwok Afghan News the cash assistance was provided to teachers through their bank accounts.

Logar education director Mualvi Jannat Gul Aziz thanked UNICEF for the assistance and urged the fund to continue assisting teachers.

A number of teachers welcomed the assistance and thanked UNICEF and the government.

Rahmatullah, a teacher at Kalingar High School, told Pajhwok Afghan News that teachers' current salaries could not meet even the basic necessities of life.

He added that the government should increase teachers' salaries and that aid agencies should provide monthly coupons to teachers.

Aneesham, a teacher at Porak Girls' High School, told Pajhwok Afghan News that such assistance should be continued.
