KABUL (Pajhwok): At least 14 people have been killed and dozens wounded in a series of explosions in Kabul and Mazar-i-Sharif, officials say.
An explosive device went off inside a mosque in the fourth police district of the capital on Wednesday evening, killing six worshippers and wounding 18 others, Kabul Emergency Hospital said.
There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the bombing that hit at the Hazrat Zakaria Mosque. Police confirmed the incident.
Khalid Zadran, Kabul police spokesman, said the explosion happened while people were offering evening prayers.
Also on Wednesday, a series of blasts ripped through passenger vans in Mazar-i-Sharif, the capital of northern Balkh
Nine people were killed and 15 others wounded in three separate blasts in the city. A security official said all the victims were civilians, including women and children,
Balkh police spokesman Mohammad Asif Waziri said the first blast took place in PD 5 followed by two explosions in PD 10.
The Islamic State’s local affiliate claimed responsibility for the bombings. The IS claim was reported by the militant group’s Aimaq news agency.
