Fuel, flour, cooking oil rates surge in Kabul markets  

KABUL (Pajhwok): The prices of flour, cooking oil, petrol and diesel surged in the outgoing week in Kabul markets despite the appreciation of the Afghani currency against US dollar.

Haji Hussain, the owner of Sadaqat Money Changer, said one US dollar accounted for 88 afs while 1,000 Pakistani rupees accounted for 450 afs on Saturday.

Last week one US dollar was accounted for 90 afs while 1,000 Pakistani rupees accounted for 450 afs.

<strong>Fuel</strong>

A worker of Ahmadyar Group told Pajhwok Afghan News that the price of one litre of petrol surged from 80 to 81 afs while one litre of diesel jumped from 86 to 88 afs.

Mohammad Sharif, a gas seller in Kolola Pushta area, said the price of one-kilogram gas stood at 68 afs same as last week.

<strong>Essential food items</strong>

Zamarai Safi, head of Food Traders Union in Kabul, told Pajhwok Afghan News that the price of a bag of 49 kilograms of Kazakhstani flour increased from 2,650 afs to 2,800 afs while the rate of 16 litre of Malysian Cooking oil jumped from 3,000 afs to 3050 afs.

However, he said that the price of a bag of 49 kilograms of Pakistani sugar decreased from 2,850afs to 2,800afs.

He said the wholesale price of some items remains the same as last week. 24-kilogram Indian sugar price is 2,900 afs, 24-kilogram bag of Pakistani rice is 2,900 afs, one-kilogram black African tea is 400 afs and one-kilogram green Indonesian tea is 350 afs.

The retail prices of some items are slightly different from the wholesale price.

Hamid Sufizada, a retailer in Dahan-i-Bagh area of Kabul said that the price of a bag of 49kg of Kazakhstani flour was 2,850afs, 24kg of rice 2,950afs, 49kg of Indian sugar 2,950afs , a tin of 16 liters of Malaysian ghee 3,100afs, a kilogram of Indonesian green tea 400afs and the same quantity of African black tea 450afs, higher than wholesale rates.

<strong>Gold </strong>

Mohammad Javid, one of the gold sellers in the Lyci Maryam market of Kabul said the price of one gram of Arabian gold Ayaar 750 is accounted for 4,400 afs and Russian gold Ayaar 585 accounted for 3,450 afs.
