Tomato yield higher in Laghman this year

MEHTARLAM (Pajhwok): Tomato production has increased in eastern Laghman province this year, the Agriculture, the Agriculture Department said on Saturday.

Eng. Baryalai Hamdard, director of agriculture, told Pajhwok Afghan News that 22,121 tonnes of tomatoes were produced by 981 hectares of land in 2022, compared to 21, 752 tonnes last year.

He estimated there was an increase of 22.56 percent per hectare this year.

Happy with the increase in tomato yield, growers complained they had not enough cold storage facilities in the province.

They urged the government to set up more cold storage facilities so that they could store their products.

Gharibullah, a resident of the Qala-i-Rahim area of Qarghayee district, said their crop’s yield had gone up, but they could not store their product due to lack of standard facilities.
