QALA-I- NAW (Pajhwok): Due to lack of psychiatric clinics, mentally ill people in northwestern Badghis province visit other provinces for treatment.

Munijha, a resident of Qala-i-Naw, who is suffering from mental illness since three years, told Pajhwok Afghan News: “I had traveled several times to Kabul for treatment”. She added, there was no professional psychiatric in Badghis provincial hospital. She called on the government to establish a psychiatric clinic in Badghis.

Mohammad Azhar, another patient, has traveled several times to Herat Province for treatment, but now he is unable to pay for treatment.

Dr. Asadullah Rasoli, a psychiatrist in the private sector in Badghis province, said due to the past wars and harsh conditions, many people suffered from mental problems.

He suggested the government should establish a psychiatric center for free treatment of mental patients.

Public health director Mawlavi Mohammad AsifQanit said that the provincial hospital lacked psychiatric department and the ENT (Eye, Nose, Throat) department also did not function. He asked the government to upgrade the Badghis hospital to meet the needs of the society.
