GARDEZ (Pajhwok): Tourists have called on authorities to take effective steps for the removal of garbage and control of pollution in the Zazai Aryub district of eastern Paktia province.
They noted with concern the absence of a proper strategy for collecting garbage in the area. They claim the people visiting the lush-green valley have left plastic bags and other items.
Samiullah Haleem, one of the tourists, told Pajhwok Afghan News: “Some beautiful sites in Zazai Aryub district that previously attracted sightseers are now an eyesore due to waste is thrown all around.”
He blamed area people for slaughtering animals, cooking food everywhere and leaving behind trash and garbage.
Ahmad Javid, another tourist who visited the area, expressed deep concern over the tourist spots littered with garbage.
He said the waste caused visitors different diseases and spoiled the enormous beauty of the area.
Other tourists, holding similar views, urge visitors to ensure the cleanliness of the beautiful sites.
Paktia Environment Protection Director Maulvi Abdul Hadi said: “A committee with members from different institutions has been formed but it could not properly work due to a large number of tourists and other issues in the area.”
