QALAT (Pajhwok): Fig yield has increased in southern Zabul province this year, but unexpected rainfall has damaged the fruit’s quality, an official said on Tuesday.
Agriculture Director Maulvi Attaullah Rashid told Pajhwok Afghan News orchards in Mizana, Arghandab, Shar-i-Safa and Seurai districts produced thousands of tonnes of fig annually.
He said orchards on over 6,000 hectares of land had been established in these districts, producing 20,126 metric tonnes of fig last year. This year, the orchards produced 201,170 metric tonnes of fig.
