JALALABAD (Pajhwok): Construction work on two water canals has been launched in the Sherzad district of eastern Nangarhar province by the River Basin Authority.
Funded by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), the purpose of the project is to provide work opportunity to people besides reconstruction.
Syed Fazl Ahad, director of Nangarhar River Basin Authority, told Pajhwok Afghan News that construction of the two canals measuring 11.5 kilometers would cost 12.7 million afghanis.
He said 1780 people were hired for the project which would irrigate 1100 acres of land.
