Iran forcibly expels another nearly 1900 Afghan refugees

KABUL (Pajhwok): Iran continued to forcibly expel Afghan refugees as more than 2,300 refugees returned from the neighboring country in two days.

The Ministry of Refugees and Repatriation in a statement said more than 2,300 refugees returned to the country from Iran on Friday and Saturday, including nearly 1,900 people forcibly expelled.

The ministry said 2,318 Afghan refugees returned to the country from Iran via Nimroz province on Friday and Saturday. Of the returnees, 1,869 were forced and 449 returned voluntarily, it said.

The ministry said 226 of the returning people have been introduced to the International Organization for Migration (IOM) for assistance.

Since the beginning of this solar year, about 252,000 Afghan refugees have returned to the country from Iran and Pakistan, including 135,000 forcibly deported from Iran.
