KABUL (Pajhwok): Afghanistan has strongly condemned Pakistani police unfair behavior with Afghan refugees and demanded Islamabad to ensure the prevention of such incidents in the future, according to a statement on Thursday.

Recently, Afghan refugees have been harassed and misbehaved in different cities of Pakistan and particularly in the Sindh province by police, a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) said.

The statement noted that frequent contact was made with Pakistan by the MoFA and Afghanistan’s diplomatic missions in the neighbouring country but the issue was not settled.

It added that Afghanistan often called on the Pakistani government to ensure the rights of refuges and stop its police and security agencies from harassing Afghan refugees and being a Muslim nation it expected a fair treatment with Afghan refugees there.

“The MoFA strongly condemned the harassment and unfair behavior of its people and want the government of Pakistan to stop such incidents. Pakistan and Afghanistan are two brotherly countries and its people have unbreakable shared interest,” the statement said.

It added that hundreds thousands of Afghan refugees in Pakistan lived an apolitical life and played their role in the economic uplift and development of Pakistan.

This comes that earlier, former Afghan president Hamid Karzai said that Pakistan detained 1,100 Afghan refugees, including women and girls. He asked Pakistani government to behave with Afghan refugees in line with the international law and norms.
