JALALABAD (Pajhwok): An Afghan businessman is going to invest $7 million in a modern education complex in eastern Nangarhar province, an official said on Monday.

The complex for scientific and religious studies will include a school, a madrasa, a university and a hostel for students.

Construction of the complex — known as the Mohammadia Islamia Darul Ulum –will be completed in five years.

Samiullah Haqqani, head of construction section, told Pajhwok Afghan News the construction work had been launched by and Afghan investor.

The complex will provide educational opportunities for school, seminary and university students, Haqqani said.

This complex will be built by an Afghan investor with financial support from other businessmen and well-to-do individuals. It will offer free education to 4,000 students.

Haqqani added: “This educational complex is going to be one of the biggest at the regional level and one of the largest education centres in Asia.”

Hassan Jan Haqqani, head of education section, said the scientific and religious centre would help remove the gap between schools and seminaries.

“Every student graduating from it will be a doctor and a memoriser of the Quran.

The facility will be built on 15 acres of land in the 6th district of Jalalabad. Its construction will generate jobs for 600 workers.

Waliullah, a resident from Nangarhar province, told Pajhwok once the complex was completed, students would not need to go abroad for religious or scientific studies.

Information and Culture Director Qari Noor Mohammad Hanif said the certificates offered by the complex would be recognised like documents of other governmental institutions. Its graduates will be issued official documents by the Ministry of Education and Ministry of Higher Educations (MoHE).

This complex was supported by the government, which had supplied power to it and had promised further cooperation, Hanif claimed.

Officials are hopeful of getting support from the rich people of the country in the future as well.
