KABUL (Pajhwok): Wheat cultivated on over two million hectares land in Afghanistan this year which produced 4.3 million metric tonnes of yield showing 13 percent increase in wheat production comparing to the last year, according to the National Statistics and Information Authority (NSIA) on Wednesday.
On its Twitter handle NSIA said by using remote sensing technology, which included the analysis of satellite images, it established the areas under dry and wet wheat cultivation the figures of which are presented in this year’s wheat production report.
The NSIA finding showed that wheat cultivated on over two million hectares land out of which 1.34 million hectares were irrigated land and 680,000 hectares was rain-fed land.
It also showed that the area on which wheat were cultivated comprised 71 percent of the total cultivated land in the country..
The NSIA figures showed that wheat demand in the country stood at 6.62 million metric tonnes which is nearly 13 percent higher comparing to the past year showing 2.27 percent decline in the local wheat demand comparing to the past year.
Statistics showed that wheat yield from every hectares of irrigated land was 2.83 tonnes and what production from hectare of rain-fed land was 0.81 tonnes.
Due to the social and economic condition the production of wheat also varied in different provinces.
