PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): The Peshawar-based Khyber Medical University (KMU) has decided to speed up the establishment of a proposed campus in Kabul.
The decision came at a meeting between an Afghan delegation and KMU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr. Ziaul Haq.
Dr. Nazar Mohammad, the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA) director of foreign affairs, led the visiting delegation.
The delegation members claimed peace had been completely restored across Afghanistan after decades of conflict.
The current Afghan government was focused on the country’s welfare and development, they said, seeking cooperation from the world and neighbours like Pakistan.
They said after the restoration of peace in the country, their priority was education, provision of public health facilities, restoration of infrastructure, and provision of wide employment opportunities.
They believed KMU could guide and help Afghans in various fields of medical education, such as medicine, pharmacy, physiotherapy, nursing and allied health sciences.
The VC informed the Afghan delegation about progress on the KMU campus in Kabul and said the necessary documentary and legal had been completed.
He said it was up to the Afghan government to give KMU a proper building for housing the planned campus.
Later, the Afghan team visited the University of Engineering and Technology to explore the opportunity of initiating a joint faculty exchange programme with the Afghan International Islamic University.
UET Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Iftikhar Hussain promised them all possible support in the fields of mining, agriculture and structural engineering.
The university has already enrolled 200 Afghan students at its undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.
