US condemns Daesh-claimed suicide attack in Kandahar

ATLANTA (Pajhwok): The United States has condemned the suicide attack that killed three people and injured a dozen more in Kandahar city, the capital of southern Kandahar province.

US special representative for Afghanistan Thomas West wrote on X that the US condemns the senseless terrorist attacks in Kandahar and Kabul that killed innocent people in the holy month of Ramadan.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of those lost.”

Meanwhile, US Embassy Chargé d’affaires for Afghanistan Keran Decker also condemned what she called cowardly terrorist attacks carried out in Dasht Barchi area of Kabul and in front of the New Kabul Bank in Kandahar.

She added: “My condolences go to the families of the victims. “Afghans should observe the month of Ramadan peacefully and without fear.”

Official sources said nothing about posts on social media networks about an explosion in Kabul.

In Kandahar, a suicide bomber detonated his explosives outside a New Kabul Bank branch in the first security zone of Kandahar city on Thursday morning, killing three people and injuring 12 others.

The Kandahar Police Headquarters in a statement said a suicide bomber detonated explosives strapped to his body in front of the New Kabul Bank.

The attacker targeted people standing in queue to withdraw their salaries.

On the other hand, Daesh group has claimed responsibility for the suicide attack in Kandahar.
