KABUL (Pajhwok): The Kabul-Tehran relations will see an upswing under the new Iranian president, hopes the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA).

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) congratulated the government and citizens of Iran on the election of the new president.

In a statement on Sunday, MoFA said: “The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan hopes with a new government in power, relations between the two neighbouring and Muslim countries will be further strengthened in various fields.”

Reformist Masoud Pezeshkian won Iran’s presidential run-off vote with more than 16 million ballots after the killing of Ibrahim Raisi in a helicopter crash in East Azerbaijan.

According to the Iranian poll panel, more than 30.5 million votes were cast in the election, with Pezeshkian polling about 16.4 million ballots and Saeed Jalili 13.5 million.
