KABUL (Pajhwok): Acting Deputy Minister of Economy of Afghanistan Abdul Latif Nazari has rejected the demand of some members of the US House of Representatives to stop aid to Afghanistan and said humanitarian aid should not be politicised.
He rejected any kind of interference in the aid distribution process and said that the move would be against international principles.
A group of Republican lawmakers is introducing a new bill that would cease all aid dollars to Afghanistan over concerns of interception by the Taliban, a report in Fox News said.
The bill would prohibit federal agencies from giving any direct cash assistance to Afghanistan and prohibit any taxpayer dollars from going to the UN for the purpose of assisting Afghanistan. It also prohibits Federal Reserve Banks from selling US currency to the UN for the purpose of direct cash assistance to Afghanistan.
Nazari said the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA) strongly rejected any kind of interference in the aid distribution process.
He said: “He said: “We are only monitoring so that this assistance is transparently available to the deserving and needy people, Our demand from the international community and relief organizations is that the aid should continue with the people of Afghanistan and these aids should not only have a humanitarian aspect, they should have a developmental aspect, the same time, we ask some members of the American House of Representatives who want to stop these aids to consider the humanitarian aspects of these aids, and we consider this request of the republicans to be contrary to international principles and contrary to the principles of human rights and a kind of extremist approach.”
He said Aid to Afghanistan is the right of the people, humanitarian aid should not be politicized, and humanitarian and economic issues should be separated from political issues.
