MAZAR-I-SHARIF (Pajhwok): The Abu Ali Sina Balkhi Zonal Hospital in northern Balkh province has registered and provided treatment to 756 diabetes patients in the past eight months, an official said on Wednesday.
Dr. Abdul Waheed Yousufi, head of the internal diseases branch of the Zonal Hospital, said 756 diabetes patients hospitalized, provided treatment and discharged in past eight months.
He said vision loss, weight loss, thirst, and severe fatigue are among the major symptoms of this disease, which if left untreated could lead to stroke, blindness, heart attack, and kidney failure.
He added that people with this disease should be monitored and treated regularly so that their disease does not progress to a serious condition or the person does not need dialysis.

A 39-year-old patient named Bismillah said that he suffered from diabetes for the past seven years, due to which he is facing many problems.
He added that he has been hospitalized at Abu Ali Sina Balkhi Hospital in Mazar-e-Sharif for the past eight days, and his health condition has improved since his admission.
Another patient, Noor Mohammad, said that he has been suffering from type A diabetes for the past two years and his condition has improved after being admitted to a government hospital.
He also added that the hospital provides him with free medicine and insulin, which, after the efforts and hard work of doctors, has brought his sugar level under control.
This disease occurs when the human body loses its ability to produce insulin or is unable to use insulin.
