After Khost, Nangarhar teachers get waiver from checkup fee

JALALABAD (Pajhwok): The Department of Education and the Doctors Union (DU) in eastern Nangarhar province have signed an agreement on the bases of which physicians in their private clinics will not charge teachers for checkup fee.

Teachers will be entitled to this waiver by providing their proof of their assignment as teachers at public schools.

Dr. Abdul Waqif Niyazi, head of the DU in Nangarhar, told Pajhwok Afghan News that they have signed an agreement with the Department of Education on the bases of each teachers would get free checkup in clinics.

He says this was done because teachers' salaries were low and this small step of assistance would be very beneficial for them.

Education Department Director Mohammad Sharif Halimi termed the move a positive step and hoped that this process would be further expanded.

On the other hand teachers have termed this a positive move.

Abdul Rahman, one of the teachers of a public school in Jalalabad, said Teachers have always sacrificed for the education of people, making a living with very few privileges, but they have also helped others reach higher levels.

He said this is the first time that student are giving teachers a small reward for their hard work, which is a great honor for teachers.

This event has also been widely welcomed on social media, and it has been noted as a sacrifice by doctors.

It is worth mentioning that similar step was taken by few days back by doctors in eastern Khost province.
