KABUL (Pajhwok): As many as 500 acres of land will be allocated to the Afghan International Islamic University (AIIU) in new Kabul city to support the campus’s expansion, the Ministry of Urban Development and Housing (MoUDH) announced on Monday.
The decision was made during a meeting chaired by Acting Minister Sheikh Hamdullah Nomani and also attended by representatives from the ministries of Higher Education, Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock, Finance, Information and Culture, Energy and Water, as well as the National Environmental Protection Authority, MoUDH said in a statement.
Nomani said the meeting was convened to implement a directive from the leadership of the Islamic Emirate, under which the land was to be granted for the university’s expansion.
He added: “In accordance with the order of the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA), and to ensure the sound upbringing and bright future of the Islamic generation, it is essential to allocate this land for the university’s expansion under the New Kabul City scheme.”
The statement added that if the full area could not be provided in a single location, the land may be allocated in multiple locations.
According to the ministry, the university complex in New Kabul City would include buildings for various faculties, laboratories, research centres, libraries, residences for lecturers, dormitories for students, conference halls, guesthouses, sports facilities, service and transport areas, green spaces, water reservoirs and other essential infrastructure.
