7 killed, 13 injured in attack by unknown gunmen in Herat: Qani

<p class="p1">HERAT CITY (Pajhwok): Seven people were killed and 13 others injured after unidentified armed men opened fire in the Injil district of western Herat province on Friday, the Ministry of Interior said.</p>

<p class="p1"><span class="s1">One suspect has been arrested in connection with the incident.</span></p>

<p class="p1"><span class="s1">Mufti Abdul Mateen Qani, spokesperson for the Ministry of Interior, said the attack was carried out by unidentified gunmen riding motorcycles.</span></p>

<p class="p1"><span class="s1">He said the assailants targeted local residents near a recreational area in Qabrezon village of Injil district—a site where people gather on Fridays.</span></p>

<p class="p1"><span class="s1">“Preliminary information indicates that 7 people were martyred and 13 others injured, some of whom are in critical condition,” he added.</span></p>

<p class="p1"><span class="s1">Qani noted that the figures are initial and more details will be shared later.</span></p>

<p class="p1"><span class="s1">He confirmed that one suspect has been detained in connection with the attack.</span></p>

<p class="p1"><span class="s1">According to a statement from Herat Police, the incident occurred near the shrine of “Sayed Mohammad Agha.”</span></p>

<p class="p1"><span class="s1">The statement said security forces responded swiftly, arrested one suspect and launched efforts to identify and apprehend other perpetrators.</span></p>

<p class="p1"><span class="s1">Police added that Sheikh Mawlana Islam Jar, the governor of Herat, along with other officials, visited Herat Regional Hospital to assess the condition of the wounded.</span></p>
