Omari Urges Uzbekistan to Invest in Afghan Agriculture Sector

KABUL (Pajhwok): The Minister of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock has invited Uzbek government officials and private sector representatives to utilise existing opportunities and invest in Afghanistan’s agriculture and livestock sectors.

The Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock said in a statement on Monday that Minister Mawlavi Ataullah Omari met with Uzbekistan’s Deputy Prime Minister Jamshid Khodjaev in Kabul.

The statement said the two sides discussed expanding bilateral relations, investment opportunities in Afghanistan’s agriculture, livestock and irrigation sectors, enhancing economic cooperation, and implementing joint projects.

Omari highlighted Afghanistan’s potential and investment opportunities in agriculture and livestock and called on Uzbek officials and private sector representatives to invest in these sectors.

Meanwhile, Khodjaev expressed Uzbekistan’s interest in investing in Afghanistan’s agriculture and agricultural machinery sectors, saying his country needs Afghan agricultural products, including cotton, potatoes and other produce.

He said Uzbekistan is ready to cooperate with Afghanistan in developing production, processing and joint agricultural initiatives.

The statement added that the two sides agreed to establish a joint technical team to review and implement the commitments and agreements reached during the meeting, with the aim of strengthening agricultural cooperation between the two countries.
