KABUL (Pajhwok): A German court has sentenced a 25-year-old Afghan man to life imprisonment for deliberately driving his car into a workers’ protest in Munich, Reuters reported.
The Higher Regional Court of Munich found the man guilty of two counts of murder, 23 counts of attempted murder and several other offences.
The court classified the crime as being of “particularly severe gravity.” Under German law, the designation generally means the defendant cannot expect parole after serving 15 years.
According to prosecutors, the defendant, identified only as “Farhad N.” for privacy reasons, carried out the attack with a religious motive and described it as a response to the suffering of Muslims in Islamic countries.
The incident took place in February 2025, when the defendant drove his car into a gathering of trade union members protesting for higher wages.
A 37-year-old woman and her two-year-old daughter were killed, while more than 40 others were injured.
The defendant admitted carrying out the attack after his arrest.
