MAIDAN SHAHR (PAN): Five armed militants were detained by a joint Afghan-international security force during an operation in the Narkh district of central Maidan Wardak province, an official said on Monday.
The mid-night operation was carried out in the Kharq area last night on the basis of an intelligence report, the governor’s spokesman told Pajhwok Afghan News. Shahidullah Shahid said the detainees included a militant group leader identified as Esa Khan.
The men were arrested with their weapons, he said, accusing the five of planning an attack on Afghan and foreign troops. The men were being interrogated by foreign troops, Shahid said.
The district chief, Hanif Hanfi, confirmed the operation, saying four people had been arrested on the charge of cooperating with the Taliban.
A resident, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the operation that began at 12am continued until morning. The joint force arrested eight people carrying guns, he said, adding the men, including a father and his two sons, had links with insurgents.
