PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): Afghanistan’s National Defense and Security Forces have received the final delivery of Silvershield units from Australia, a media report said on Tuesday.
Silvershield units are vehicle-mounted systems that provide life-saving protection against radio-controlled improvised explosive devices (IED), said Defence Connect.
The units would boost the confidence of Australia's Afghan partners operating in highly dangerous situations, hoped Minister for Defence Christopher Pyne.
He added: “Over 15,000 Silvershield systems have now been delivered to Afghanistan for training and initial rollout, with deliveries now complete.”
The Afghan forces have been provided with more than 200,000 individual and vehicle mounted Redwing systems over the past three years
The device jams radio signals that trigger the IED explosions, and has proven to be a lifesaver on the battlefield.
