At six people lost their lives over the past 24 hours and eight others recovered, a spokesman for the ministry. With the latest deaths, the death toll from the coronavirus has jumped to 193.
The total number of recoveries is 938. Kabul saw 274 new cases in the past 24 hours, the official said, urging the masses to take precautions.
He said 69 cases had surfaced in Herat, 55 in Balkh, 35 in Nangarhar, 26 in Maidan Wardak, 15 in Sar-i-Pul, 12 in Paktika, as many in Khost, seven in Paktia, one in Badghis, five in Laghman, 13 in Parwan, two each in in Jawzjan and Farah and three in Faryab.
Dr. Mayar said 26,707 Afghans had undergone Covid-19 tests so far across the country.
On the global front, coronavirus cases surpassed 5 million, with Latin America overtaking the US and Europe in the past week to report the largest portion of new daily cases globally.
Latin America accounted for almost a third of the 91,000 cases reported earlier this week. Europe and the US each accounted for just over 20%,.
