KUNDUZ CITY (Pajhwok): The Agriculture and Livestock Department on Wednesday said it had started distributing drugs of various diseases to livestock owners for 100,000 animals in northern Kunduz province.
Maulvi Amanullah Hassan, director of Kunduz’s Agriculture and Livestock Department, told Pajhwok Afghan News that Congo disease had caused problems for many farmers in the province.
He said the government had started distributing medicines to clinics in the province to prevent Congo and some other diseases.
“We provide the medicine free of cost, it is for 100,000 animals, it is given to the herdsmen who then spray on the animals with a pump,” he said.
Mohammad Zafar, head of an animal clinic in Kunduz, told Pajhwok Afghan News that Congo disease had caused severe problems for livestock farmers in recent years.
“This year, the government is distributing free medicine to the people and the farmers are also very happy,” he said.
Meanwhile, Fazlur Rehman, a resident of Dasht-i-Archi district, told Pajhwok Afghan News that he had lost many animals to various diseases in recent years.
Congo (hemorrhagic fever) is a disease that is transmitted from animals to humans by a specific insect and often kills humans.
