KABUL (Pajhwok): A bookfair launched at Kabul University in the presence of high-ranking government officials on Sunday to promote the culture of reading books in the country.
The Ministry of Information and Cultural Affairs and the Kabul Publishers Union took the initiative for the launch of the bookfair in which 35 publishers put on display 1,500 books.
Information Minister Mawlavi Khairullah Kharikhwa said the future of the country belonged to the youth and asked the youth to give time to book reading for their success.
He acknowledged challenges in the government and promised that all existing problems, including the matter of the ‘Islamic Emirate Recognition’, would be resolved soon.
Kabul University President Dr. Osama Aziz while referring to the importance of book reading said all Muslim and non-Muslims have agreed that human progress was linked to reading books.
The government's acting spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid asked publishers that besides their business they should take efforts to serve the education and promote the culture of reading.
He said similar exhibitions would be held in the future in other provinces to promote the culture of reading books.
