AIBAK (Pajhwok): Former Governor of Central Bamyan Province Tahir Zaheer has joined the ‘Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan’ (IEA) in the Dara-i-Suf district of northern Samangan province, an official said on Friday.
Samangan Information and Cultural Affairs Director Ferozuddin Muneeb confirmed the development and said Tahir Zaheer who lived in the Dara-i-Suf district joined the IEA in the Dahna Tur bazaar area.
He did not provide information that how many people joined IEA along with Zaheer and how much weapons they surrendered and added more information would be share when Zaheer was taken to Aibak.
It is worth mentioning that Samangan’s Dara-i-Suf Bala and Payen districts are connected with Aibak through Balkh province.
According to the local official Zaheer established contact with the high level intelligence officials of the IEA and paved the way for his joining.
He spent the past two years in the mountains of Sar-i-Pul and Samangan provinces and joined the IEA on Thursday.
Hailing from Dara-i-Suf Bala district Zaheer was a Wolesi Jirga member in its 15th legislative tenure from 2010 to 2012, from 2015 till 2020 he served as the governor of Bamyan province and became the information and cultural affairs minister in 2020.
After the fall of past regime he went to Sar-i-Pul province and joined former pro-IEA figure Mawlavi Mehdi.
Mehdi was killed in August last year.
