PUL-I-ALAM (Pajhwok): Farmers from central Logar province have donated 170,000 saplings to support efforts for greening the Qush Tepa canal, an official announced on Monday.
Abdul Basir Shahid, spokesperson for the Department of Agriculture, Irrigation, and Livestock, told Pajhwok Afghan News farmers from Pul-i-Alam, Baraki Barak, Mohammad Agha, and Charkh districts contributed the saplings.
He said the donated saplings, supporting the department’s initiative to bring greenery to the major canal, included fruit-bearing, decorative and flowering seedlings.
He added the saplings had been handed over to National Development Authority (NDA) officials for plantation along the canal.
Shahid praised the farmers for their contribution and encouraged residents to continue planting trees to enhance greenery and environmental sustainability in the coming year.
Abdul Waris, a local grower, told Pajhwok the initiative was a collective effort and urged farmers in other provinces to make similar donations.
In collaboration with the Department of Agriculture, Logar’s farmers plan to plant thousands of fruit-bearing and other saplings in the solar year 1404.
