KABUL (Pajhwok): The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) on Monday said Wazir Mohammad Akbar Khan Provincial Grade-II tournament featuring 37 teams will commence on January 18.
ACB wrote on its Facebook page the 15th edition of the Wazir Mohammad Akbar Khan Provincial Grade-II tournament will be played in Khost, Kandahar, Kunar and Nangarhar provinces.
The mega domestic event will last for 18 days and 37 provincial teams from nationwide will play 93 matches.
Teams from Kabul, Kunduz, Maidan Wardak, Khost, Bamyan, Ghazni, Nuristan, Kandahar, Parwan, Helmand, Nimroz, Uruzgan, Badakhshan, Paktia, Panjsher, Khost, Sar-i-Pul, Kunar, Baghlan, Kapisa, Faryab , Sanamgan, Farah, Paktika, Herat, Balkh, Daikundi, Jawzjan, Zabul and Takhar provinces are participating.
The cricket board said the provincial teams have been divided into six groups and the leading team in each group will advance to the first class Wazir Mohammad Akbar Khan tournament.
ACB Executive Director Nasib Khan said the domestic tournament was held every year to hunt new talents and promote cricket in the country.
He added that about 700 players would have the opportunity to show their skills in the competitions.
Khan also said the cricket board was committed to taking cricket to every part of the country and the second class tournament among 37 provincial teams was a big sign of the game’s development in the country.
This will be the first tournament of its kind this year and it will be followed by the first level Wazir Mohammad Akbar Khan tournament between 12 provincial teams in February.
