KABUL (Pajhwok): The unity government has evolved consensus on a nominee to head the Ministry of Defence (MoD), a lawmaker has said.
Mohammad Nazir Ahmadzai told Pajhwok Afghan News that President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani has revealed this during his meeting with a number of lawmakers recently.
“Yesterday, we met with the president and he said that Gen. Abdullah Khan, a former official of the MoD, will be introduced to parliament,” he added.
“We thanked the president for this initiative. Our demand was that he should introduce a suitable choice as soon as possible for a vote of confidence.”
A source in the MoD wishing to go unnamed said he did not know about Gen. Abdullah Khan’s nomination but said the general had been an MoD official for the past 40 year. He added Abdullah Khan hails from Kunar province and has studied in Russia.
Javed Faisal, a spokesperson for the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) has twitted that the leaders have evolved consensus on a nominee.
