JALALABAD (PAN): Eight insurgents were killed during a predawn raid by international soldiers in eastern Nangarhar province, officials said on Sunday.
The airstrike took place at about 2 am, after a group of rebels attacked a joint patrol of Afghan and coalition forces in Batikot district, the governor’s spokesman said.
Ahmad Zia Abdulzai told Pajhwok Afghan News the NATO) struck the militants on motorcycles in Chahardeh area.
Col. Mahbubullah, the district police chief, said the raid did not harm civilians or security personnel.
Elsewhere, a police commander and his bodyguard were killed when their vehicle struck a roadside bomb in central Uruzgan province late on Saturday.
The victim was on the way to his checkpoint when the Taliban-planted landmine went off in the Soli area, said Col. Gulab Khan, the provincial crime branch chief.
