Committed to Afghanistan’s uplift: Turkmenistan

KABUL (Pajhwok): Turkmenistan has reaffirmed its strong commitment to promoting Afghanistan’s socio-economic development

Trend news agency, citing a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Ashgabat, said Turkmenistan’s commitment was reflected in the infrastructure projects it had initiated.

Turkmenistan is currently working on a variety of social facilities on Afghanistan’s territory on a gratuitous basis.

A mega gas pipeline, power and communication lines, as well as railroads, connecting Turkmenistan with Afghanistan and other regional countries, are important for the Afghan economy.

Kabul and Baku have inked a Memorandum of Understanding on land acquisition for the Afghan portion of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India gas pipeline project.

The pipeline will transport natural gas from the Galkynysh Gas Field in Turkmenistan through Afghanistan into Pakistan and India. Construction work on the project started in Turkmenistan in December 2015.

The pipeline will pass through the cities of Herat and Kandahar (816 kilometers), via Quetta and Multan before reaching the Indian city of Fazilka.

The pipeline’s design capacity is planned to be 33 billion cubic meters of gas per year, and its cost is projected at $8 billion.
