Afghans fear civil war after foreign forces’ pullout

KABUL (Pajhwok): In the backdrop of US and NATO announcements to pull their forces out of Afghanistan by September this year, some people fear the breakout of a civil war if foreign forces leave Afghanistan without any agreement between Afghan government and the Taliban.

While some people welcome the pullout of foreign forces from Afghanistan and believe that Afghan security forces have the ability to secure Afghanistan.

Most of people when asked stressed on a responsible withdrawal of foreign forces from Afghanistan and said they did not want a new chapter of conflict in the country.

Parwaiz Ahmad, a resident of Herat province, said Afghanistan was passing through a difficult condition and the withdrawal of foreign forces could lead to an internal war in the country.

He added with withdrawal of foreign forces, Afghanistan would fall victim to an internal war and the country may become safe haven for international terrorists.

Numan Dost, a social media activist, said: “After the withdrawal of Soviet Union Forces from Afghanistan the war did not end. Afghanistan was destroyed, its military disintegrated and its honor was perished.”

He added after the pullout of US forces the war may not come to an end in the country, which may be destroyed and again neighbouring countries find a chance to interfere broadly.

Fazal Rabi Azizi, a resident of capital Kabul, said: “The withdrawal of foreign forces from Afghanistan may pave the way for an uncontrolled civil war.”

He said in the past two decades Afghan leaders were unable to create a powerful and strong government rooted in masses and acceptable to the people. The immediate withdrawal of foreign forces from Afghanistan may negatively impact Afghanistan and its people.

He said it would have been better if first peace was enforced among conflicting parties with a strong guarantee from the UN and then NATO and US forces would have left Afghanistan.

Mohammad AlamElmi, a resident of Baghlan province, said: “An irresponsible pullout of US forces may result in internal war in Afghanistan.”

Khalilullah Shankar, a civil society activist, said: “This pullout is irresponsible, disgraceful and away from diplomatic norms in the history of the world.”

Abdul BasirWaseeq, a resident of Badakhshan province, said with the withdrawal of foreign forces from Afghanistan, Afghan security forces would remain alone fighting terrorism.

Mistrust over complete withdrawal of foreign forces from Afghanistan

Sharif Paktin, a resident of Gardez City, said he was not sure all US forces may leave Afghanistan.

He criticized foreign forces mission in Afghanistan, saying they had failed fighting terrorism in Afghanistan.

“During their stay in Afghanistan, foreigners did nothing to eradicate terrorism from Afghanistan.”

Mohammad Amin Stanikzai, a resident of Jalalabad City, said he was not sure that foreign forces would soon leave Afghanistan, adding that US officials’ statements were aimed at putting pressure on the Afghan government.

Afghans ready to ensure security in absence of foreign forces

Mahmood Shah, a resident of Samangan province, said he was proud of the ability of security forces and said: “All Afghans want foreign forces to leave the country because currently Afghan security forces could fight the enemy and defend their territory.”

Mohammad Marof, a resident of Mazar-e-Sharif, stressed the need of unity of Afghans and said the pullout of foreign forces was not something to be worried because Afghans know that one day they all will leave the country.

Meanwhile President Ashraf Ghani said that he respected US President decision regarding the pullout of US forces from Afghanistan.
