HERAT CITY (Pajhwok): Agriculture officials say grapes production increased by 20 percent and fig production by 25 percent in western Herat province this year.
Abdul TawabTaib, Herat agriculture director, said told a press conference today that Herat produced 130,000 tons of grapes last year but the amount would increase to 159,000 tons this year.
He said that mechanization of agriculture and awareness of gardeners about new methods of gardening helped increase in grapes production this year. The bulk of grape harvest in Herat is dried and then exported to foreign countries, he added.
