ADB provides agricultural tools to Nangarahr Canal Dept

JALALABAD CITY (Pajhwok): The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has provided in aid agricultural tools worth $592,000 to the Canal Department of eastern Nangarhar province, officials said Wednesday.

Officials of the Canal Department said that the tools would be used in cleaning canal streams, their management and distribution of water.

HabibaKakar, deputy Nangarhar governor thanked ADB for its assistance and said that the tools included five mobile water pumps, two dump trucks, an excavator, a roller and a loader.

Mohammad BasirHaqyar, head of Nangarhar Canal Department, said that they were in need of these tools for years as they were managing rural streams with basic tools before, but the tools would now help accelerate their services.

The tools would not only help in stream cleaning, but it would also help in proper distribution of water besides other uses, he said.

SayedMaqsoodHashemi, another official of Nangarhar Canal Department said that the tools were part of the ADB project it had started for reconstruction of the canal in 2009.

Besides machineries, the project includes reconstruction of 70 kilometers of canal, its cleaning and retaining its sides.

Nangarhar Canal Project was launched five decades ago when Mohammad Zahir Shah was the king of Afghanistan.
