PUL-I-ALAM (Pajhwok): Distribution of improved quality wheat seed among 1000 farmers began in central Logar province on Sunday.
Logar agriculture and livestock director Abdullah told Pajhwok Afghan News the wheat seed was being distributed among farmers by an international aid agency, FAO. He said deserving farmers had been indentified in a survey conducted previously.
He said each farmer would receive 50 kilograms of seed. He hoped the distribution of wheat seed would result into increased production of wheat crop next year.
Shamsuddin, a farmer in Mughalkhel village of Mohammad Agha district, said the aid agency should provide farmers with fertilizer as well.
He said a bag of chemical fertilizer was sold for 5000 afghanis, which most farmers could not afford to buy.
It is to be noted that wheat production in Logar has increased this year and is expected to increase further next year.
