KABUL (Pajhwok): The United States and its European allies will slap more sanctions on Russia in the wake of President Joe Biden’s visit to Brussels.

US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan said Biden would join the European Union in imposing further sanctions on Russia and tightening the existing ones.

The advisor told journalists at the White House on Tuesday the fresh sanctions would be announced on Thursday after talks with US allies in Brussels.

TASS news agency quoted Sullivan as saying: “What I will say is that one of the key elements of that announcement will focus not just on adding new sanctions, but on ensuring that there is a joint effort to crack down on evasion, on sanctions busting…”

Biden is visiting Brussels today to attend an emergency NATO summit and a Group of Seven (G7) meeting. He will also join a scheduled EU summit.
